Forest Lawn Drive is Dangerous

It is an arterial street behind Griffith Park, which is a thoroughfare for motorists, cyclists, and runners.

However, due to the road’s design, 74% of vehicles are driving at speeds of 42 mph or faster. At this speed, 1 out of 2 pedestrians or cyclists can be killed if struck. Tragically, between 2013 and 2023, there have already been 95 collisions, which have resulted in 3 people being severely injured or killed.

The current design of Forest Lawn Drive contributes to the danger it poses to all road users.

The road is badly in need of repair with lots of potholes and cracks. The bike lane is small and faded or doesn't exist at all.

Without visible signage and safety infrastructure, pedestrians and cyclists who use the road are at risk of being hit by distracted or unaware drivers.

Due to this poor visibility and lack of infrastructure, people who run, walk, and bike on the shoulder face high risks from speeding cars. Left turns also prove challenging for motorists, as there are no or insufficient turn lanes.

LA DOT Forest Lawn Project

LA DOT plans to repave and implement safety measures, such as traffic calming, improved bicycle infrastructure, etc., along just over one mile of Forest Lawn Drive. The details of these improvements can be seen using this link: https://ladotlivablestreets.org/projects/forest-lawn

Mt Sinai and Forest Lawn Mortuary is Trying to Kill this Project

The two largest Businesses along this stretch—Mt Sinai and Forest Lawn Mortuary—are spending lots of money to try to kill this project. They want drivers to be able to speed to their facilities, even at the expense of others' safety.

They are spreading false information about the project in an effort to get people to complain to the Mayor of Los Angeles and LA DOT so they will be forced to water down the planned improvements.

Act now:

Please FLOOD the Mayor of Los Angeles, LA DOT, and Councilmember Nithya Raman with emails letting them know that you support this project and want to see it completed as it is, not watered down.

Click the button below to email key staff at the LA Mayor's Office, LA DOT, and Councilmember Nithya Raman's office. The email is pre-made, but please customize it for you, add your voice, and add your name at the end.

Thank you!
