THE SAFE TEAM

Damian Kevitt, Executive Director

Damian Kevitt

Executive Director

Damian was raised in Los Angeles, CA, and prefers, whenever he can, to get around on his bicycle. He was schooled in the sciences – studying marine biology at UCSB and microbiology at U of A. Damian later became a professional counselor at his church, where he worked for well over 25 years counseling and helping both staff and parishioners.

His life took a sudden turn in Feb 2013 when he was hit by a car, that never stopped, while bicycling in Griffith Park. Barely surviving and losing his right leg, Damian got back on his bicycle and started his quest to not only finish the ride he was on but also use what happened to him to make the streets safer for all.

Currently, Damian leads SAFE’s programs to improve street safety to help make Southern California a better place. Damian also enjoys bicycling around LA, running, taking photographs, and caring for his tropical fish.

Dayna Galbreath, Director of Public Affairs

Dayna Galbreath

Director of Public Affairs

Dayna has been a member of the SAFE team since its inception in January of 2014. She studied nursing at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. She received her Associate’s Degree in Nursing and received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas – Arlington. With her prior experience working as a Registered Nurse at LAC+USC Medical Center, she has brought her passion for helping people and making a difference in their lives into SAFE’s mission.

Her involvement and dedication to SAFE began after seeing the suffering of victims of hit and run crimes and other street safety incidents and realized that she must do more to help. In fact, she was Damian’s nurse during his time in hospital following his hit and run. In the organization’s short time, Dayna has helped raise awareness of the hit and run epidemic by spreading SAFE’s message at events and through alliances with other like-minded organizations. She also started the first and only support system in the US for victims and families affected by traffic collisions.

Brenda Cárdenas

Graphic Designer

Brenda is a graphic designer and Illustrator who is passionate about using visual graphics and art as a means of communication to help others and get the word out on important social causes.

Her work for SAFE includes creating graphic material for social media, printed promo, creating infographics, illustration and even designing the medals for Finish The Ride & Run events!

Having been a victim of traffic violence herself on 2021 after getting hit by a car while riding her bike, she immediately got interested in SAFE after finding out about the organization, as she believes everyone deserves the right to move around the city without fearing for their life.

When she's not creating graphic design for SAFE, she enjoys drawing, playing video games, creating clay pieces, or getting out and enjoying nature.

Scott Froschaugen

Scott Froschauer

Artist in Residence (volunteer)

Scott is an experimental artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, and he likes it there. His background consists of structured education in Engineering, Theoretical Linguistics, Science, Art, Computer Programming, and Business along with practical experience in Fabrication, Design, Non-Ordinary Reality, Experiential Narrative, Venture Capital, and Breathing.

Scott's work is, first and foremost, an exploration of emotional connectedness and empathy. He believes that our culture considers being connected to oneself as a revolutionary act. He attempts to create work that might expose and counteract the constant tides of alienation, judgment, and addiction, which our culture uses to avoid uncomfortable mental and emotional spaces.

SAFE Streets Ambassador speaking

SAFE Streets Ambassadors & Representatives

Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) works on a grassroots level to educate and build support for safer streets that foster changes in attitudes about street safety issues and bring about improvements in road engineering. These changes depend on individuals and groups at the ground level working to reach out to people and civic leaders to bring about these improvements.

One of the ways SAFE helps bring this about is our SAFE Ambassador and Representative Program, where people can work as members of SAFE’s team at a comfortable level.

One can switch between levels of volunteering as one is available to help. One can also start as an individual, build up a group, or become a SAFE Chapter.
