2024, A Year in Photos

The beginning of a new year always offers a chance to reflect on the year that just passed, and at SAFE, we wanted to use our first blog of 2025 to share some photos, memories, and accomplishments from a fantastic 2024!

Finish the Ride and Run: Griffith Park

Our original and largest annual event, Finish the Ride and Run Griffith Park, only got bigger in 2024. Over 2,000 people helped raise over $128,000 to support SAFE’s fight to make roads safe for all users.

More than 1,300 participants registered for Finish the Run Griffith Park, a new high for the event.

Nearly 700 riders registered for Finish the Ride Griffith Park, a slight increase from last year.

Finish the Ride and Run Santa Clarita

In its fifth year, Finish the Ride and Run Santa Clarita is only becoming more popular. More than 800 participants raised more than $58,000 for safe streets!

We were so inspired by the 328 of you who registered for Finish The Run Santa Clarita!

And by the 477 supporters who registered for Finish The Ride Santa Clarita!

Policy and Legislation

This past legislative session, the policy and legislation team at Streets Are For Everyone was tracking 99 bills, 15 of which we ultimately supported or opposed.

Seven of the bills SAFE supported were signed into law, including three:

  • SB 1297, which implemented a speed-camera pilot program in Malibu

  • SB 961, which requires an Intelligent Speed Assistance system for all new California cars

  • and SB 1509, which increases penalties for egregious speeding violations.

Want to learn more about SAFE’s legislative successes in 2023-24? Check out our final legislative tally from last year.

As we look ahead toward the upcoming California state legislative session, SAFE is already hard at work on our top policy priorities for the 2024-25 session:

  • red-light camera reform,

  • continuing education about new laws for drivers,

  • bringing illegal electric motorcycles back under the law,

  • bicycle highway designation,

  • tackling street racing and street takeovers, and

  • slowing down dangerous state highways — to name a few

Clean Ride Crew Has Strongest Year Yet

Clean Ride Crew meets each month to bring volunteers from across the Los Angeles area together to clean our bike lanes to keep them safe for cyclists — and it’s an excellent opportunity to advocate for safer streets for all road users.

Thanks to the more than 150 volunteers who cleaned nearly two tons of trash across 13 miles of bike lanes!

Streets, Art, SAFE 2023/2024

The Streets, Art, SAFE Film & Poster Competition grew in 2024. In total, 29 schools from seven counties, including our first schools in Arizona and Florida, competed in the competition.

The winning traffic-safety PSAs were featured on social media, YouTube, local cinemas, local TV stations, and even gas pumps across the US, thanks to a partnership with GSTV, which resulted in a combined total of 6.213 million views.

And the top three winners were…

Watch: Best PSA Gold Award!

Watch: Best PSA Silver Award!

Watch: Best PSA Bronze Award!

SAFE Support

SAFE Support provides families affected by traffic violence with the support, resources, and help they need to manage the aftermath of a deadly crash. This year, SAFE Support supported nearly 70 new cases — twice as many as the year before.

We also formed SAFE Families to help connect those affected by traffic violence and provide therapeutic, healing opportunities for families to heal, grieve, and grow, like our first “Sip ‘n’ Sculpt” event at MoDo Studios.

The SAFE Word is Spreading

We’re so excited to see our message spread as more people join the fight to make our streets safer across the United States and the world.

Congratulations to SAFE’s new Inland Empire chapter

And our partners at Save Lives Gambia!

And volunteers working on safe roads all over the US, including organizations like South Los Angeles’ Faith for SAFEr Streets

Thank you to everyone for making 2024 such a successful and memorable year. We look forward to seeing you on the streets in 2025!
