Writer/Producer/Director, Kathi Carey

About Kathi Carey:

Kathi Carey’s journey to award-winning writer/producer/director followed a circuitous route: she wrote stories and made films as a child, growing up in the San Francisco Bay area, but as a child prodigy on the piano a career in music was expected.

Moving to Los Angeles was the catalyst that would change her career path from music to film, and her filmmaking career accelerated when she joined a prolific film & TV company as an actress. As with many such companies talent wore many hats and it was here that she began to develop both the craft of writing/directing and her unique voice by writing and directing many episodes of the web series and TV pilots shopped by the company.

Directing films became the natural evolution, starting with her first film, Reflections of a Life, which won an award at its first festival, and continuing with her second film Worth, which screened at 31 festivals and won 31 awards. Worth went on to qualify to be in the small pool of films that were eligible to be nominated that year for an Academy Award. Kathi went on to produce and direct several web series (which have also won awards). Kathi’s unique vision includes emotionally-moving visuals, lyrical and expressive performances and she has an uncanny grasp of rhythm, both of a scene and the overall piece (from her musical background). As a director, she is recognized as artistic, collaborative and precise.
