End of the Year Spotlight

Our Awesome Volunteers

We want to give a massive shout-out to our volunteers who help us keep our doors open and all of our programming and actions going throughout the year. Now that the year is coming to a close, we want to highlight two volunteers who consistently go above and beyond what they are asked to do. Please meet Karl Eggers and Pastor Patricia Strong-Fargas. Both of them are champion volunteers that are ready to go at any time and are always looking for ways of improving their communities.

Karl Eggers has been helping Streets Are For Everyone for several years now. He has taken different roles as a volunteer, from being a marshal at our Finish The Ride events to being part of our operations crew at different SAFE awareness events. But, no matter the ask, Karl always shows up bright and early with a smile and enthusiastic attitude. Karl always works things out the best way he knows, and as a retired Engineer, he uses math, which might look a lot more complicated than he makes it seem. Karl is a pleasure to be around and is always willing to share his stories and experiences while bringing a wealth of knowledge to any group he joins. We want to celebrate Karl for the incredible volunteer he is and thank him for all the help he provides us throughout the year. We wouldn't be where we are now without great help from people like him.

“Karl’s generous support and willingness to help is greatly appreciated. We appreciate his commitment to SAFE.” - Stephanie (Director of Support Services)

Pastor Patricia Strong-Fargas has been helping Streets Are For Everyone for a few years now. She first joined SAFE as a partner in our Vision Zero Project. After working closely with our Executive Director, Damian Kevitt, Pastor Fargas liked our mission so much and decided to get more involved. She began as one of our volunteers and has become the Co-Chair of our Faith for Safer Streets South LA team. She has been vital in executing different organizational activities like the Remembrance of those Lost and Prayer for Safe Passage in South LA and our most recent event, Enough is Enough: A March for Safer Roads, in connection with World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. Pastor Fargas is such a strong leader in her community, and we want to celebrate her for everything she has done for us at SAFE and her community of South LA.

"Pastor Patricia Strong-Fargas answers every one of my calls with a friendly "I'm blessed" when I ask her how she's doing but this warm-hearted and caring person is a force of nature not to be reckoned with when it comes to making streets safer. We, at SAFE, are blessed to have her on our side!" - Damian (Executive Director)
